Supported by the international organizations, a two-day regional conference "Money in Politics" started

With support of international organizations, the State Audit Office organized the third Regional Conference "Money in Politics" at the Radisson Blue Iveria Hotel.

More than 100 representatives and international experts of 10 countries are attending the Conference on Political Finances Monitoring.

The aim of the conference is to identify current important issues in the field of political finances of the Central and Eastern European countries, experience sharing and improvement of existing tools and monitoring results.

The conference will discuss a wide range of important topics including political financing sources, use of cryptocurrency in politics, the role of civil society, as an observer and effective financial monitoring bodies, equal access of women candidates and gender balance, modern development of political finances and its challenges, the role of social media.

The Auditor General Irakli Mekvabishvili opened the conference stating that “proper functionality of the monetary flow monitoring system promotes transparency of the finances in politics.” “The State Audit Office, as an independent watchdog, is committed to facilitate transparency of funding sources and political financing and sharing international experience,” Irakli Mekvabishvili said.

Regional Conference "Money in Politics" is held for the third time in Tbilisi. Co-organizers of the conference are: the State Audit Office, OSCE / ODIHR, Council of Europe (CoE), International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Support (International IDEA), International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Transparency International – Georgia and Eastern European Center for Multi-Party Democracy (EECMD).
